EXCURSIONS

Dalyan and the Lycian tombs – This inexpensive excursion is a must. The boats take you to the thermal springs and mud baths, the ruin of Kaunos and past the Lycian tombs. Some will also take you to Iszutzu beach, famous throughout Turkey for its turtles and long white beach.

Marmaris – A shopping centre with a beautiful marina and beach. The nightlife here is young and lively. Try the Turkish bath (hamam) and treat yourself. Ladies, gents and children welcome.

Mugla – The provincial capital of this region. Again the hamam is well worth a visit as is the market.

Ephesus (Efes) – second only to Pompeii this is an outstanding archaeological site and is worth the 3-hour drive to see. Get there early in the morning or later in the afternoon, as it can be astoundingly hot and busy. Cameras are a necessity as is a hat!

Sirince – Not far from Ephesus and a delightful stop for lunch, Sirince is a beautiful village renowned in the region for its fruit wine. Treat yourself to a few bottles at approximately £2.50 each. The melon wine is our favourite!

Pammukale – known as the “Cotton Castles” is a good day trip especially when combined with a visit to the nearby Hierapolis ruins.

The Bay of Gokova Why not hire some sea kayaks and take a lazy trip through the tributaries of the river or take a day trip on one of the gullets that you can hire down by the pier that will take you to Aquarium Bay , Cleopatra's Isle and the underwater caves and many other wonderful sights. View sea urchins, jellyfish and the wonderful variety of fish in the many bays en route. Take your swimming costumes so that you can join in the fun.
